Nero d'Avola is the most important red grape variety in Sicily. Since the 1980s, Sicily's winemaking has been going through a transformation, which has resulted in a dramatic increase in quality. With Nero d'Avola, expect big and robust wines with great fruit concentration. Always full-bodied with high but soft tannins and fairly low acidity, Nero d'Avola wines are soft and velvety. Expect black fruit aromas followed by flavours of black cherry and plum with notes of herbs, leather, smoke, and spice.
