Corvinone was not fully recognised as a grape variety in its own right until the 1990s. Corvinone was thought to be a clone of the Corvina grape. Whilst remarkably similar to Corvina with thick skins and a tendency to ripen late, Corvinone's berries are larger. Unlike Corvina, Corvinone grapes tend to produce darker wines with deeper flavours of cherry and spice.
