Cantina Gaffino's Viognier is a luscious and velvety white wine that boasts the best characteristics of the Viognier grape. Full-bodied with aromas of peach and pear, smooth and aromatic in the mouth with flowery notes and good minerality.
To enhance the aromas of the Viognier grape, Cantina Gaffino produces this wine under low temperatures, which allows the natural freshness and balance of this grape to shine through. The fermentation process takes place over 12 days in stainless steel tanks.
Cantina Gaffino, Lazio
Cantina Gaffino’s 28 hectares of vineyards are planted just a few miles south of Rome and located in a vantage area boasting volcanic soil and optimal altitude and exposure. The business has been family-run for almost 60 years. Throughout this time their focus has been in the vineyard, cultivating their vines to obtain the highest quality grapes.
Viognier is genetically related to the Piedmontese Freesia and is therefore also related to Nebbiolo. Originally from France, Viognier was almost extinct in the 1960s but brought back in fashion by new world wine-makers. In recent years, Viognier is planted in most wine-producing countries in the world. Notoriously hard to grow (hence higher price tags), Viognier wines are elegant, rich and smooth. Viognier wines are generally dry with low acidity showing flavours of apricot and peach and distinct herbal notes of chamomile and lavender.
