Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore DOC is an exceptional red wine just steps away from the mighty Amarone. Intense ruby red in colour with a fresh and refined bouquet of mature fruits, spices, and tobacco, Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore DOC from Stefano Accordini has a full and strong taste with perfectly combined soft tannins. Drink now to 2029.
Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore DOC is a red wine made using the Valpolicella Classico method with a second maceration over the sweet grape skins of Amarone and Recioto. Once the initial fermentation is complete, the Valpolicella Classico is blended with the grape skins of Amarone. This triggers a second fermentation adding colour, sugars, and aromatics typical of this distinguished wine. The blend is then aged for 12 months in oak barrels, where it undergoes malolactic fermentation (bitter malic acid is transformed into less bitter lactic acid) to become a soft wine with a unique and unmistakable character, enriched in body, colour, and aroma.
Stefano Accordini, Veneto
Stefano Accordini is a traditional Italian family-run vineyard that started making wine in the early 1900s. The vineyards are spread across 25 hectares and are located at the highest point of the Valpolicella Classico area. This unique location creates an individual terroir that allows Stefano Accordini to craft wines with distinct flavours and bouquets.
Corvina is a traditional Italian grape mostly planted in northeast Italy. Its thick skin and propensity to ripen late make this grape ideal for air drying. Corvina wines are typically light-bodied and high in acidity with notes of sour cherry, almonds and herbs.
Corvinone was not fully recognised as a grape variety in its own right until the 1990s. In fact, Corvinone was thought to be a clone of the Corvina grape. Whilst remarkably similar to Corvina with thick skins and a tendency to ripen late, Corvinone's berries are larger. Unlike Corvina, Corvinone grapes tend to produce darker wines with deeper flavours of cherry and spice.
Molinara is an indigenous Italian grape exclusively planted in the Veneto region. Molinara produces wines with good acidity but lacks distinct character, colour and flavour. Therefore, Molinara is almost solely used in blended wines and sometimes used in Valpolicella blends.
Rondinella grapes are indigenous to Italy and are almost exclusively grown in the Veneto region. Hardly used in single varietal wines, Rondinella is one of the essential grapes in Valpolicella. Ruby red in colour with low tannins, Rondinella wines tend to be neutral with distinct herbal notes.
