Tenuta Viglione's Negroamaro is a fabulous expression of the Negroamaro grape that showcases the best qualities of this traditional Puglian grape. Ruby red in colour with purple hues and an intense scent of red fruits and wild berries. The palate is dry and balanced with good acidity, mild tannins and a lingering finish.
Tenuta Viglione harvests their grapes in mid-September. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks.
Tenuta Viglione, Puglia
Tenuta Viglione, started by Giovanni Zullo in 1937, to this day remains in the same family and the current generation of the Zullo family are now preparing their children to take over the baton. Tenuta Viglione's vineyards sit in the Murgian Hills between 300 and 500 meters above sea level, which is high for Puglia. The soils here are formed of clay and limestone and are mineral-rich.
Negroamaro is a grape that thrives in a hot climate. It's also high yielding so winemakers need to implement good vineyard management to reduce the yield and concentrate the flavours. Typical aromas of Negroamaro show red and black fruits and spices. Flavours of plum, cherry, and blackberry are characteristic of this grape. More complex expressions have notes of coffee, tobacco, liquorice, bitter chocolate, and an earthy quality.
