Friulano, a traditional Italian grape formerly known as Tocai Friulano, is a beautifully gentle and aromatic white variety from Friuli Venezia Giulia. Kurtin's expression of Friulano is straw yellow in colour with a complex aroma of meadow flowers, pear, and apricot. Dry and intense with an almond finish, this Friulano pairs well with fresh cheese, fish, and white meat. Drink now.
Kurtin, a small family vineyard, was founded in 1906 and has been handed down through the generations for the last 100 years. Winemaking only began in the 1970s and today Kurtin counts a mere 11 hectares of vineyards producing only 60,000 bottles of wine per year.
Friulano is a traditional Italian white wine grape variety mostly planted in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. Originally called Tocai Friulano, the name had to be changed after a legal battle in which a court ruled that the name Tokay, and relevant permutations, can only be used for wines made in the Tokaj region of Hungary. Despite the ruling, Friulano wines have been at the centre of the Friuli Venezia Giulia wine-making industry for centuries. Light to medium-bodied, Friulano wines are dry and typically boast aromas of green apple, meadow flowers and pears with notes of honey and almond.
