This is a wonderfully rich and floral Falanghina from Cantine Massimo Leone. An elegant warmth and savoury notes create the background for flavours of flowers and honey and a long pleasant finish. Drink now.
Cantine Massimo Leone harvests their Falanghina grapes by hand. The grapes are soft pressed then fermented in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures before undergoing a period of ageing, again in stainless steel, then refining in the bottle.
Cantine Massimo Leone, Puglia
Cantine Massimo Leone's vineyards are in the sun-baked centre of the Tavoliere delle Puglie, Italy's second-largest plain. Their goal is quality and to achieve this they tend to their vines, pruning and destemming to encourage low yields and optimal ripening of their grapes.
Falanghina is an ancient grape variety native to Campania and grown extensively across southern Italy. Like so many native varieties, Falanghina was wavering on extinction by the 1970s but, thankfully, was saved by visionary winemakers. This grape works well when fermented in stainless steel. As a varietal wine, it is vivid and refreshing with aromas of wildflowers, acacia blossom, honeysuckle, citrus, and tropical fruits. Detectable flavours include apple, pear, lemon, lime, pineapple, banana, kiwi, candied peel, and mineral notes with a subtle spice.
