Cantina Albea's Raro is a sumptuous blend of Negroamaro (80%) and Primitivo (20%). Aromas of ripe red fruit with hints of vanilla, honey, and leather complement deep flavours of cherry, liquorice, vanilla, and an afternote of dried flowers. Raro is a complex, expressive, and intriguing wine. Drink now to 2026.

The Negroamaro and Primitivo grapes for Cantina Albea's Raro grow in the vineyards of Brindisi and Bari. Their vines are trained for low yields to ensure the optimal quality of the grapes at harvest time. A long maceration period of 20 days extracts the fullest amount of aroma and flavour from the grapes. The wine is refined in barrique for eight months then spends some time in the bottle before being released to the market.

Cantina Albea, Puglia

Cantina Albea, located in the Alberobello countryside, is one of the oldest and most accredited wineries in the area. Their cellars, built in the early 1900s, are made from stone and their wine tanks are buried in the rock.

Negroamaro

Negroamaro is a grape that thrives in a hot climate. It's also high yielding so winemakers need to implement good vineyard management to reduce the yield and concentrate the flavours. Typical aromas of Negroamaro show red and black fruits and spices. Flavours of plum, cherry, and blackberry are characteristic of this grape. More complex expressions have notes of coffee, tobacco, liquorice, bitter chocolate, and an earthy quality.

Primitivo

Primitivo is one of the most planted grapes in Puglia along with Nero di Troia and Negroamaro. The grape was first introduced to the region in the town of Gioia del Colle in the 18th century where it was cultivated by the priest Francesco Filippo Indellicati. It was Francesco that coined the name Primitivo, reflecting its early ripening nature - Primitivo roughly translates to first to ripen. Primitivo has been confirmed as being genetically identical to Zinfandel. Since this discovery, its popularity has been making a comeback. Primitivo is big and powerful, displaying flavours of raspberry, blackberry, cherry, and plum with spicy pepper notes.
