Dolcetto, which translates as the little sweet one, is a famous grape in Piedmont that gives its name to this Dolcetto di Ovada DOC. Ruby red in colour with a bouquet of strawberries and plums. Unlike the name, this wine is dry with good acidity and a fair amount of fresh tannins. Flavours of black cherries and stewed plums are accompanied by hints of bitter almonds.
Il Rocchin is a small family run business. Located in the classical heart of the Gavi area, the Zerbo family oversees the 44 hectares of vineyards grown across gentle hills made up of limestone, clay and sand.
Dolcetto is a traditional Italian red wine grape from Piedmont. Although Dolcetto is now grown outside Italy, it is mostly planted in the Monferrato area. Dolcetto grapes tend to ripen early and can be grown in cooler, less favourable locations making Dolcetto wines more affordable compared to Nebbiolo wines. Relatively low in acidity with medium to high tannins, Dolcetto wines tend to be dry, boasting aromas of plum and red berries with hints of bitter almonds and herbs.
