Castello Carboncine's Merlot is anything but a standard Merlot. Deep ruby red in colour, with an intense herbaceous aroma. The taste is dry, complex with a harmonic structure and a pleasantly long wood finish. Drink now to 2025.
Following the harvest, the grapes are fermented for eight to 10 days in specially designed steel tanks that basculates to allow the maximum extraction of flavours from the grapes. The wine is then aged in barrels.
Castello Carboncine, Veneto
The Carboncine estate sits on an ancient site which, legend has it, used to be a stopover for the Templar Knights on their way to or from Venice. Castello Carboncine is run by sisters Isabella and Susanna, who are proudly continuing the traditional wine-making style of the Treviso area. Their passion and efforts culminated in securing the IGT Marca Trevigiana for most of their wines as well as one DOC.
Merlot is a renowned international grape thought to be of French origin. In France, it is used in Bordeaux blends along with Cabernet Sauvignon. Italian Merlot grapes are mostly grown in Northern Italy and are very popular in single varietal wines and blends. Merlot wines are low in tannins, smooth, easy to drink with notes of cherry and plums.
